Due to this year's increased demand for our guitars, we no longer keep an inventory of anything other than my do-it yourself kits, which can be found on the 'Shop' page.  All of our instruments are built to order and take about 6-12 weeks depending on my schedule and the time of year.  6-string solid body electrics may take longer.  When we get an order, we aren't in a hurry.  We build them each individually and take our time.  Thanks for looking at our guitars and we hope you'll let us build you one!  If you want a really special touch, add our Exotic Woods package for $50.  Why??  We use exotic species from Africa and South America that are, in many cases, twice as hard and dense as U.S. hardwoods.  Hardness and density add sustain and tone because they transmit sound instead of absorbing it.  Plus, they look unbelievable!!  Our Exotic Woods package includes the neck, fretboard and a veneered headstock.  It's well worth it!!


3-string Carhopper Model-- During the Great Depression, folks often hopped on rail cars to travel from town to town either looking for work or hiding from their past.  These folks were called, among other things, Carhoppers.  Our Carhopper series 3-string cigar box guitar is our standard 3-string offering, and intended to look like something these folks could have been seen strumming as they rode down the line.   It is meant to embody the true history of the cigar box guitar.  Combining a vintage/distressed look with a blend of modern and reclaimed materials, the Carhopper looks and sounds like vintage instrument full of soul and waiting to be vocalized.

6-string Solid Body cigar box guitar:
Our 6-string solid body electrics are the newest addition to the SlackJack Lineup in 2011, and are quickly becoming the flagship of the line.  We use a variety of cigar boxes, all no less than 11 ½” in length.  Boxes will vary depending on availability.  All of our solid body 6-string models come standard with Golden Age Parsons Street P-90 pickups, not generic pickups that you find on many CBG’s.  Golden Age pickups are known for their vintage tone, taking you back to the sounds of the Gibsons of the late 50’s.

WOMP BOX-  The Womp Box is a stomp box made from a wooden cigar box.  Great to use as in solo situations or anywhere you need a rhythmic kick drum sound where you don't have the space for one.  The current Womp Box is our 2nd Generation offering.  The new Womp Box gets its low end tone from a magnetic bass guitar pickup wired to a volume control.  Most of the boxes are solid wood inside.  The antique license plate top activates the pickup.  Sound and volume can be altered depending on where you tap or stomp on the box.  Rubber feet make it great for any surface by holding it in place.

SlackSticks-- A SlackStick is a unique instrument that is made for seasoned musicians and complete novices alike.  Click on the word SlackStick anywhere in this paragraph to see a video of one of these instruments being played.  It's pretty simple, it is fretted like a mountain dulcimer and held and strummed like a guitar.  Due to the way it is fretted, on a diatonic scale, the only notes that exist are the ones that pertain to the scale that it is tuned to.  Therefore, no bad notes.  It is almost impossible to get a bad sound out of this instrument, which allows newbies and seasoned musicians alike to create beautiful music and navigate the fretboard effortlessly.  It is strongly influenced by music native to my hometown, Jonesborough, TN.  However, given the cigar box construction it also pulls from the original cigar box guitar concept, and can be played with a slide to achieve an extremely interesting sound.  If you thought you didn't have a musical bone in your body, try a SlackStick.  It will prove you wrong!!
